As a military photographer of the German Air Force
Karl Kölbach was active both before
and during WW I. His job was to take pictures of targets and enemy
positions. He also took pictures of aircraft taking off and when
they crashed. In addition he portrayed soldiers on operations
and in their quarters as well as taking pictures of landscape
and towns.
Most of the pictures were taken in the period 1914-1916
in Flandern in the west of Belgium. About 300 photos have survived
of which a small selection can be viewed here.
